Andromeda, a vision of grace, was Princess of Ethiopia. Her mother would boast of Andromeda's unparalleled beauty, claiming she was even more beautiful than the sea nymphs. Angered by this claim, the sea god Poseidon unleashed a terrible sea monster to ravage the coast and devastate the land of Ethiopia. Only the sacrifice of Andromeda would appease the gods; And so, she was chained to a rock in the ocean and left to be devoured by the monster.
Flying over Ethiopia on the winged horse Pegasus, Perseus sees Andromeda, helplessly bound to her fate. Gazing upon her was love at first sight. In a swift daring act he vanquished the monster, freeing Andromeda and winning her love in return.
