Pygmalion, a gifted sculptor, created a flawless ivory statue of a woman and named her Galatea. He worked so long and with such inspiration on the statue that it became more beautiful to him than any woman that had ever lived.. Struck by the beauty he had crafted, Pygmalion fell deeply in love with the statue, longing for a living companion just as perfect. Every day he would bring her gifts he thought she would enjoy; beads, seashells, and flowers.
